April 10: Big Day for Baby News

April 11, 2007 -- Actress Julie Bowen gave birth to a baby boy on April 10 after her water broke while filming on the set of Boston Legal.  This is the first child for Julie, who also starred in Ed and Lost, and her husband Scott Phillips.  The couple elected not to find out the baby’s sex before the birth.  They have named him Oliver McLanahan.

Samantha Harris, co-host of Dancing with the Stars, finally addressed the speculation concerning her recent weight gain and announced on the April 10 results show that she is indeed pregnant.  She and her husband Michael are expecting their first child this fall.

In celebrity paternity news, a DNA test has revealed that Larry Birkhead is the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby daughter, Dannielynn.  The ruling was made in a courtroom in the Bahamas.  Another court hearing will be held on April 13 to determine who will gain custody of the little girl.  Larry has announced that he plans to raise the child on his own.  In a strange twist to this strange story, attorney Howard K. Stern, who was listed as the father on Dannielynn’s birth certificate, has said he will support Larry’s bid for sole custody.

February Celebrity Baby Roundup

March 4, 2007 -- February brought us lot of celebrity baby news.  Along with a few eagerly anticipated births, there were some new pregnancy announcements.

Desperate Housewives actress Marcia Cross delivered fraternal twin girls named Eden and Savannah on February 21 in Los Angeles.  It was well know that Marcia was carrying twins, but it was thought by many that they were a brother and sister duo.  A gift registry listed under her name on the website of the fancy Los Angeles area baby store, Petit Tresor, featured many requests for items in shades of pink and blue.  The children are the first for the flame-haired beauty and her stockbroker husband, Tom Mahoney, who married last June.

Kimberly Williams-Paisley, best known for her roles on According to Jim and the Father of the Bride movies, gave birth to a baby boy on February 22 at a Nashville area hospital.  Kimberly and her country singer husband, Brad Paisley, were slow to release the name of their first child, but it has now been announced that they have named their William Huckleberry.  They call him Will.

Original Buffy the Vampire Slayer Kristy Swanson had her first child, a son named Magnus Hart Swanson Eisler, on February 15.  The father is her Skating With Celebrities partner, Olympic medalist Lloyd Eisler.  The chemistry between Kristy and Lloyd was obvious to anyone who watched the pair skate.  This probably would have been a sweet story, except that Lloyd reportedly cheated on his then-pregnant wife with Kristy while they were taping their figure skating reality show.

Trista and Ryan Sutter, who met during the taping of The Bachelorette and married on TV in a million dollar ceremony, recently announced that they are expecting their first child this summer.  The baby’s gender is not yet known.

Bridget Moynahan’s representative recently announced that the actress is expecting New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s baby.  This news came as a bit of a surprise, since the couple, who dated for three years, broke up in December.  Tom is now reportedly dating supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

Though she wasn’t nominated this year, Australian actress Naomi Watts got lots of attention when she walked the red carpet at the recent Academy Awards.  Fashion house Escada, which designed the gown Naomi wore to the Oscars, announced in a press release that they designed the dress around her pregnancy.  Naomi herself had been hiding the pregnancy from the media, but the yellow dress, which highlighted her baby bump, made it hard to hide any longer.  Naomi’s boyfriend, actor Liev Schreiber, confirmed the news on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

The celebrity baby boom has been the most interesting thing out of Hollywood to watch lately.  With many more A-list babies expected in the near future, we’ll continue to keep an eye on this trend.

Double Dose of Father of the Bride This Weekend

February 2, 2007 -- This weekend, you have two chances to catch a mini-marathon of movies starring Mom-to-be Kimberly Williams Paisley.  Kimberly is expecting her first child with country crooner husband Brad Paisley this month.  The actress, currently starring in ABC’s According to Jim, got her big break in 1991’s Father of the Bride.  In it, she played Annie, the bride-to-be whose father, played by Steve Martin, struggles not only to deal with all the hoopla concerning the wedding, but also the fact that his little girl is all grown up and about to leave him for the new man in her life.  It was a highly successful remake of the 1950 movie of the same name, which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Spencer Tracy.

In 1995, Kimberly reprised her role of Annie in Father of the Bride Part II.  This movie has Annie and her husband of four years expecting their first child.  Her father, George, who has just about gotten over the stress and expenses of the wedding, now is going to be a grandfather.  Then he finds out that there will be more than one new little bundle of joy, as his wife is also expecting.

These were great date movies back in the nineties, which brings us back to the real life love story of Brad and Kimberly.  Brad saw the first Father of the Bride during its theatrical release with his girlfriend at the time.  Brad and his girlfriend had broken up by the time the sequel came out, but he went to see it by himself.  He reportedly was thinking of his ex and was secretly hoping to run into her at the screening.  She wasn’t there, but the experience provided the inspiration for his platinum-selling album, Part II.

Fate has a funny way of making things come full circle.  The word is that Brad developed a little crush on Kimberly after seeing her on the big screen.  They met in 2002 when she starred in the video for his number one song, I’m Gonna Miss Her.  They married on March 15, 2003.

Even with the impending arrival of their first child, the celebrity couple has been busy with their careers.  Kimberly returned to the movies in 2006 with How to Eat Fried Worms and We Are Marshall.  Brad’s latest album, Time Well Wasted, went platinum and has already spawned three number one singles.  According to Kimberly’s official website, her pregnancy is going well, and she and Brad will have the baby in Nashville, where they have a home.  They have not found out the sex of the baby.

Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride Part II will run back to back on TBS twice this weekend.  On Saturday, February 3, the double feature will start at 3:50 p.m. EST.  On Sunday, February 4, the two movies will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST.

If you or someone you know is getting married or expecting, or you just enjoy movies that touch your heart and funny bone at the same time, you won’t want to miss this movie event.  If you can’t catch these airings, check them out on DVD.  With the beautiful young star of these movies now a wife and soon to be a mother, the timing is perfect.  It’s hard to believe that over 15 years have passed since the first film.  She hasn’t aged a bit, and if anything, looks more radiant than ever.  Seems like marriage and motherhood have been as good to Kimberly Williams-Paisley as they were to her on-screen persona.

Baby Names Continue Evolution

January 30, 2007 -- In the ever evolving world of baby names, in 2006 parents continued to get creative.  This according to data compiled from more than 350,000 of BabyCenter’s members.  For instance, the boys name Aidan was replaced as the top name by it’s slightly different spelling Aiden.  And the name Mackenzie (#27 on the girl’s list) was spelled a whopping 45 different ways, including the rarely seen McKenzye.

Trends for 2006 included using the letter “y” in place of “i” (Madyson, Aydan, Mychael), “k” instead of “c” (Konner, Kaleb, Khloe), “f” in place of “ph” (Cristofer, Sofee), and “xx” in place of “cks” (Jaxxon).  Another popular trend continues to be the use of apostrophes, such as in the names Ky’Lee, Jaz’Myne and Jay’Den.

So when will we see names like Brenda and Brian again?  How about Helen or Henry?  Albert or Alice?  Jennifer or Jeffrey?  We think it’s going to be awhile.
