Top Baby Names for 2007
May 20, 2008 -- Jacob and Emily
continue to dominate this decade, according to statistics
released by the Social Security Administration. In every
year since 1999, those two names have been more popular for baby
boys and girls, respectively, than any other name. In
fact, Emily has been the number one name for baby girls since
1996, a twelve-year run.
For boys, Michael, Ethan, Joshua and Daniel
round out the top five, while for girls it was Isabella, Emma,
Ava and Madison. Michael had been the number one boy name
from 1961 thru 1998, when Jacob took over. For the girls,
many of the most popular names are relatively new in their
popularity. For instance, Ava didn't even become a top 100
name until 2002.
