Baby
Shower Favors
Favors
are given to guests at a baby shower to thank them
for the “favor” of their attendance. They can be
grouped together in the center of tables, scattered
one at each place setting or lined up on a table
near the door for guests to pick up on their way
out. You will likely want to choose a favor that
matches the baby shower theme. The theme can be
incorporated into the favor packaging or into the
small gift itself.
One of the most common favor
choices is an edible treat. A traditional baby
shower favor would be pastel colored candy, such as
Jordan almonds, M&M’s or mints, wrapped up in tulle
and tied with a pretty ribbon and a small
baby-related charm, such as a baby bottle or
pacifier. A more modern twist is to wrap miniature
or regular sized chocolate bars in personalized baby
shower papers. You could give cookies packaged in
cellophane bags or Chinese takeout style boxes.
Tea, hot chocolate and coffee packets also make
thoughtful favors, especially for wintertime
showers.
As discussed on our decorations
page, well-chosen favors can perform double duty at
a baby shower. Pretty pens can be used to play baby
shower games, and will come in handy for each guest
to keep in her purse for writing out checks or by
the phone to take messages. Small bud vases each
holding a single carnation or rose can be grouped
together as table centerpieces. Each guest can then
take one of the vases home as a gift.
Small personal accessories make
great gifts that will be used long after the baby
shower thank you notes have been sent. There are
very classy key rings, change purses and cosmetic
cases available at reasonable prices. And who
couldn’t use an extra umbrella, for all the
“showers” that come after this one.
If you just can’t decide what
to give as a favor, you could give several different
items. There are gift bags and boxes in just about
every color and to fit nearly any theme imaginable.
Fill them with a variety of small gifts. Nice
fillers would include skin care items like soaps,
lotions and lip balms, stationery goods such as
pens, pencils and note pads, and edibles like
cookies and candy. The guests will hardly be able
to wait to open their packages and see what’s
inside.
If the shower will be co-ed,
you will want to select favors that are suitable for
male and female guests. Nearly everyone likes to
eat, so you can’t go wrong with an edible favor.
Reusable plastic cups filled with sweet or salty
snacks would go over well with either sex.
Whatever favor you select to
give the baby shower guests, make sure you have a
few extras on hand. There could be last minute
additions to the guest list, and you wouldn’t want
to leave anyone out. Use these ideas as starting
points to come up with a baby shower favor that all
of the guests will enjoy.
