Italian Baby Shower Menu
A
menu of Italian dishes would be an excellent choice
for feeding a large crowd. Italian is one of the
most universally popular cuisines, making it ideal
for a coed baby shower. In general, Italian style
dishes are easy to prepare and budget friendly. You
can get a lot of help from your grocery store’s
deli, bakery and frozen food section, or even pick
up most of what you need from your favorite Italian
restaurant. This would be the perfect menu theme if
either of the parents is of Italian heritage.
Start with an antipasti platter filled with Italian
meats, cheeses and marinated vegetables. Follow up
with a green salad tossed with Italian dressing.
You could also serve an Italian soup, such as
minestrone or pasta e fagioli. Serve with crusty
Italian bread or rolls or garlic bread.
You
may choose to set up a pasta bar. Cook up your
choice of pasta noodles, including spaghetti, penne
or bow ties, and perhaps a filled pasta or two, such
as ravioli or tortellini. Serve a variety of
sauces, including marinara, meat and alfredo. Offer
one or more types of baked pasta dishes, such as
lasagna, ziti or manicotti. You could also serve
classic Italian dishes such as chicken or eggplant
parmigiana.
Pizza is another Italian restaurant staple. You can
make your own, have them delivered by your favorite
pizzeria, or choose from the excellent frozen
varieties now available at grocery stores. You may
wish to cut the pizza into smaller square-shaped
pieces, since you will be offering such a variety of
foods that people may not wish to eat a large slice.
You
will want to offer some low carb options for those
who are following that type of diet. Meatballs,
either plain or swimming in tomato sauce, and
Italian sausages, cut into bite size pieces and
cooked with onions and peppers, should fill the
bill.
A
scoop of spumoni ice cream would be a delicious
accompaniment to a slice of baby shower cake. You
may wish to offer some other Italian desserts, such
as cannoli, tiramisu or gelato.
Red
wine is the beverage of choice with an Italian meal,
but out of respect for the Mom-to-be, grape juice
might be a better option. You could also mix up
some Italian sodas with flavored syrup, heavy cream
or half and half and club soda.
An
Italian inspired menu will be a big hit at any baby
shower. Buon appetito!
