Soup,
Salad and Sandwich Buffet
A
soup, salad and sandwich buffet should go over well
with all baby shower guests, whether they are male
or female, heartier or lighter eaters. This menu
would be fairly easy to prepare, and could be put
together at a reasonable cost.
Serve at least three varieties of soup. Favorites
include chili, chicken noodle, vegetable, French
onion and clam chowder. An ideal soup buffet would
include at least one soup with meat, one creamy soup
and one vegetarian option. Depending on your
setting, you could keep pots of soup warm on a
kitchen stove or in slow cookers. You can make your
own soup recipes or pick out your favorite canned
varieties. If you will be serving the soup in
disposable bowls, Styrofoam would be preferable to
paper or plastic. Serve the soups with a variety of
crackers, such as saltines, wheat or whole grain and
oyster crackers. You may also wish to have shredded
cheeses to top the soups, such as cheddar for chili
or Swiss or gruyere for French onion soup.
For
the salad course, you could serve a simple green
salad with a variety of dressings on the side. A
Greek or spinach salad would also be nice. If other
guests want to bring a dish, ask them to fix their
favorite broccoli, bean, carrot and raisin, layered
or other type of salad.
The
sandwiches could take many forms. You may want to
set out deli trays of meat and cheese, along with
bread, rolls and condiments. If you have a stove or
griddle handy, you could make a batch of grilled
cheese sandwiches. The easiest option may be to
pick up some subs from your favorite deli or
sandwich shop, then cut the subs into smaller, more
manageable pieces.
A
soup, salad and sandwich buffet should please even
the pickiest eaters at a baby shower. It will
require minimal effort on the part of the hostess,
but provide maximum enjoyment for the guests.
