Baby
Shower Gifts
So
you’re attending a baby shower, but you’re not sure
what to give? We’re here to help navigate you
through the maze of baby products and guide you
toward the perfect gift for your friend or relative
who’s expecting. You might want to start by
reviewing our
Baby Gift Giving Guide,
which will give you pointers for choosing a baby
gift for any occasion. There are a few extra things
to keep in mind when shopping for a present for a baby
shower.
You may want to consider the
shower theme, if there is one, and pick a gift that
will correspond with it. Depending on the theme,
you may have been assigned a type of gift to bring.
Check out our baby shower themes page for gift
suggestions to fit several of the more common shower
themes.
The shower invitation may have
indicated a store where the expectant parents have
registered for baby gifts. You are in no way
obligated to purchase items from the registry. The
element of surprise is one of the most fun parts of
any party, especially a baby shower. The mom-to-be
is likely to be surprised and delighted when you
present a unique gift she didn’t even know existed.
If other people give from a pre-selected list, your
gift will be the one that makes everyone ask, “Where
did you get that?”
You might want to find out if
the future father will be attending the baby
shower. If so, you could take a gift just for him.
There are humorous T-shirts that announce his status
as a proud papa. You could also give him a
masculine diaper bag, a must-have accessory for the
modern father. A gift for Dad will be the hit of
the party, whether the shower is co-ed or ladies
only.
Shopping on-line is a terrific
way to choose a baby shower present. You will save
yourself time not having to travel from store to
store, and you will be able to find the perfect gift
to suit your personality as well as that of the
expectant parents. When you purchase a gift
on-line, you are less likely to duplicate the gift
that another person picked up at the local
department or baby store. Plus, if you are unable
to attend the baby shower, you can usually arrange
to have the gift shipped directly to someone else to
deliver to the shower on your behalf. That way the
parents-to-be and the shower guests will know how
much you care, even if you can’t be there.
Because the gifts will be on
display for a time before they are opened, you will
want to give something that looks impressive on the
gift table. One easy way to accomplish this is to
give a baby gift basket or diaper cake. It is like
giving multiple gifts in one, and will attract lots
of attention. Plus, the work of selecting the
individual items and packaging them is done for
you. You just pick the basket that fits the theme,
baby’s gender and your budget, and show up with your
show-stopping gift.
Presentation is very important,
as you’ll want the packaging to reflect the care you
put into selecting your special gift. You can find
an adorable gift bag to fit most gifts. If you
choose to wrap the box, tie a small baby toy, such
as a rattle or stuffed animal, to the top to jazz it
up. When giving a very large gift that doesn’t lend
itself to wrapping, such as a crib or toy chest, you
could tie a big bow on it. If you are presenting a
fully assembled gift, you could fill it with some
smaller gifts, such as stuffed animals or toys. For
example, if you are giving a stroller or car seat,
it would be precious to place a teddy bear where the
baby will go.
You want your gift to be the
one that the Mom-to-be opens first, or the one she
saves for last. Follow these tips, and you’ll give
the gift that’s the talk of the party.
