Baby Shower Planning - Page 4

What? and How?

Now that you’ve put some thought into the who, when and where of the baby shower, all that’s left is the what and how.  What type of theme should the party have?  Check out our baby shower themes page for ideas to get you started.  You’ll need to decide what the guests will do at the shower, what you will give them as a thank you for their attendance, and even what you will give the Mom-to-be.  Look at our baby shower games, baby shower favors and baby shower gifts pages for suggestions in each of these areas.

By now, you’re probably asking yourself, how am I going to make this all come together?  If you haven’t already, you might want to seek help from other friends or family members of the expectant mother.  They could help by preparing food, decorating the location, or even by giving you money to cover some of the party expenses.  You could consider using a divide and conquer strategy, by making one person responsible for food, one for decorating, etc.  Just make sure there is a consensus between all co-hostesses as to the theme, cost and overall look and mood of the shower.  This will help minimize disagreements and disappointments down the road.

A good baby shower planning book, with timelines and checklists, will help keep you on track.  You will also need some type of organizing system.  You will probably want a notebook, preferably a small one that you can carry around with you.  This will allow you to jot down thoughts, ideas and facts as they come to you, such as the address of a person you need to invite, or something you need to buy for the party.  You will also need something to hold loose papers you acquire in your shower planning.  This could include appetizer recipes you tear out of magazines, order forms for invitations and decorations, and receipts for anything you may have purchased for the party, especially if you might need to return things, or you are splitting the cost of the shower with others.  You could use an accordion file, a loose leaf binder with pockets, or even a large envelope, as long as you will use it and not lose it.
