Irish/Green Baby Shower
Many baby showers have a color
scheme of pink or blue, but if you want to do
something a little different, maybe you should go
for the green. Green is a popular color for
decorating baby nurseries, not only because it’s a
soothing color, but also because it can work for
either gender. If the parents are electing not to
learn the baby’s gender ahead of time, a green theme
would be a natural. Green would also work well if
the mom-to-be is expecting multiples of mixed
gender. Of course, a green baby shower would be fun
if the baby shower or the baby’s birth is scheduled
around St. Patrick’s Day. If one or both parents
are proud of their Irish heritage, you can help them
celebrate with a bit o’ the green.
Luckily, there are plenty of
traditional baby shower invitations and decorations
in pale green. If you are planning more of an Irish
theme, then the time around St. Patrick’s Day would
be ideal for picking up decorations and favors.
Green party decorations and candy for shower favors
can also be found in abundance around Christmas and
Easter.
If you want the food to match
the green theme, you have lots of options. Set out
a relish tray of pickles and green olives. Instead
of the usual mixed nuts or peanuts, offer a bowl of
pistachios, preferably shelled. Cucumber slices,
celery sticks and green pepper strips make excellent
dippers for spinach dip. Tortilla chips go great
with guacamole and salsa verde. For a main course,
you could serve pasta with pesto sauce and a green
salad with green goddess dressing. If you were
planning an Irish themed party, you might consider
corned beef sandwiches accompanied by cole slaw and
potato salad as an alternative to the traditional
corned beef, cabbage and potato supper.
For dessert, you will probably
want to serve up a cake or cupcakes decorated with
green icing. You could supplement with such tasty
green treats as lime sherbet or gelatin, pistachio
pudding or key lime pie. For a healthy sweet
option, offer a fruit display of green grapes,
granny smith apple slices, honeydew melon and kiwi.
For favors, you may want to
include green chocolate candies, jellybeans, hard
candies or mints. If the shower theme is St.
Patrick’s Day or Irish, you could give gold wrapped
chocolate coins.
