You
Oughta Be in Pictures Shower
With the baby boom going on out
in Hollywood, we are bombarded with images of the
celebrity glitterati and their privileged offspring
prancing around in pricey duds in fabulous
locations. It would be fun for any Mom-to-be to
live like the rich and famous, if only for one day.
You can recreate that experience for her by throwing
a Hollywood-themed baby shower.
Many women
love to watch awards shows like the Oscars and Emmys
just to see the beautiful gowns and jewelry that the
stars will be wearing. Most of us can only dream of
what it would be like to walk down a red carpet
looking like a million bucks and posing for the
cameras. You can let the Mom-to-be and the baby
shower guests experience this feeling by having a
red carpet, or at least a red fabric or plastic
aisle runner, at the entryway. Depending on the
party location and time of day, you might encourage
the guests to dress up in “creative cocktail”
attire. Have movie star style accessories, such as
inexpensive sunglasses, large faux cocktail rings,
tiaras or top hats available for the guests to adorn
themselves. To really capture the moment, have a
teenager or a husband of a guest videotape each
guest’s arrival. The hostess should greet guest
with an introduction for those “watching at home”
and be sure to ask the magic question, “Who are you
wearing?”
The baby
shower decorations should definitely include some
glitz and glamour. A color scheme of red, black and
gold would elegantly evoke the Hollywood theme, or
you could go with black, white and silver to pay
homage to the silver screen. There should be stars,
either in garland hanging from the ceiling or in
confetti sprinkled on the tables. If you or someone
you know has good photo editing skills, you could
create a movie style poster with a picture of the
new parents, complete with a creative title for
their latest “production”.
The
Mom-to-be is the star of this show, so make sure
that she has a comfortable chair decorated just for
her. Give her a feather boa and a tiara to wear on
her special day.
To capture
the essence of an awards show after party, you
should pull out all the stops when it comes to the
food presentation. An elegant hors d’oeuvres buffet
would be perfect. This would be a great time to
pull out the fancy crystal and silver serving
pieces, though if you don’t have any, you can find
some reasonable facsimiles in plastic.
Let the
guests help document this momentous occasion on film
by putting a disposable camera on each table. Be
sure to pass around an “autograph” book so that each
guest can record well wishes and advice for the new
parents and the little star in the making.
If you think
the guests would enjoy it, you could ask them to
theme the baby shower gifts to their favorite
movies. For example, six pairs of baby socks could
be Cheaper by the Dozen. An appropriately
decorated diaper cake could represent Sixteen
Candles. You might even give out a prize for
the most creative gift and theme.
No awards
party is complete without a bag of swag for the
attendees. You should choose glittery gift bags for
the baby shower favors, or at least fill the bags
with sparkly tissue paper or foil shreds. Fun
treats to fill the bags would include packs of
microwave popcorn and boxes of classic movie theater
candies. If the shower is ladies only, you might
want to include a beauty product, such as a lip balm
or some shimmering body lotion, to ensure that they
are always ready for their close up.
A Hollywood
themed baby shower is the perfect way to celebrate
with the new Mom as she prepares to take on the role
of a lifetime. Long after the cameras have stopped
rolling on this event, she will remember her moment
in the spotlight.
